Side COLLECTIONS

I also have small collections of many Pokémon. Most of them are one-offs that I really have no full intention of collecting hardcore or I would love to but their items are very rare.

#004 Charmander

Picture
Japanese name: ヒトカゲ (Hitokage)
A little information for my lovely visitors: I like Charmander and Charmeleon! Why do I not go all out on collecting them? After all, I collect Charizard! For one thing, it would be way too much for me to handle collecting the entire line. The second thing is, the only two Charmander stand-alone items I own were given to me as gifts. I didn't go out and buy them, but I would not feel right selling them or trading them. The final and most important reason for not collecting the younger Chars: I simply like Charizard a lot more to go all-out on collecting. Still, I don't see any harm in showing off what little Chars I do have!

Picture
Charmander Figure Stamper

This really adorable stamper was given to me by syminka! I just had to show it off!

Picture
Charmander Rock Paper Scissors Figure

I am not sure what this figure was used for, but judging from the title, there was probably a Bulbasaur and a Squirtle released as well. Choosing your starter is always a game of rock paper scissors that you are guaranteed to lose since your rival will always choose a Pokémon with a type that is stronger.

#133 Eevee and #196 Espeon

Picture
Japanese names: イーブイ (Eievui), エーフィ (Eifie)
Okay, these are two Pokémon that I will not be going all out on collecting. They are just way too popular and have too much stuff, especially Eevee. I think collecting them would be an even greater endeavor than Charizard, and that's pretty big! So no, as much as I love these two, they will not be part of my main collection. I will only be buying what I think looks cute and what I would love to display. Espeon is my favorite Eeveelution, so I would like to have a small side collection for her as well.

Picture
Eevee Original 2009 Lifesize Plush

Fun story time! When I was visiting syminka, a lot of Pokémon items she had won on eBay arrived at her house, with this plush being one of them! That was the second time I had seen this plush in person! The first was syminka's own 1:1 Eevee that she had displayed! I have always contemplated about getting a 1:1 Eevee for myself, so then was the perfect time and place! She was so kind enough to do a payment plan on this little sweetie! Even though I am not an avid Eevee collector, I regret nothing!

I do not plan on getting the 2013 re-release. I hear it is vastly inferior to the original, so I am opting out of that. I am happy with this one!

Picture
Eevee 2012 Pokémon Center Plush

Released in 2012, this plush is small, but made from a very soft minky fabric! A stark contrast with the Takara Tomy plush released around the same time (which was larger but made of velboa fabric).

This was one of the plushes that I decided against weeding, and it will be staying in my collection.

Picture
Eevee Arcanine Hoodie Pokémon Center Plush- Mouth Opened

I just had to get my hands on these plush! These Eevee are imitating the Shishi or Komainu statues often seen at the front of Shinto shrines. These lion-esque dogs act as guardians of the shrine and come in two forms- a dog on the right of the entrance (considered male) with its mouth opened.

This plush is obviously the imitation of that statue

Picture
Eevee Arcanine Hoodie Pokémon Center Plush- Mouth Closed

The statues on the left of these temples and shrines depict a lion-dog with its mouth closed (considered the female). They also have one paw on a puppy, which this plush lacks.

No matter. These plushies were must-haves due to their adorableness and they featured one of my favorite Pokémon wearing the hoodie of another favorite Pokémon of mine.

Picture
I <3 Eevee Large Plush

This is my first Eevee plush! I jumped on that Eevee bandwagon when larvitarscar was doing pick-ups for this little one! Well, she's not so little since she is about as large as the 1:1 Eevee! She is incredibly soft! I do <3 Eevee!

Picture
I <3 Eevee Large Laying Down Plush

I found this and a whole assortment of other plush in an inexpensive lot. Of course, I had to snatch it! Ever since I laid eyes on this plush I knew I wanted it. Eevee is not part of my main collection, so why would I want something so badly like this plush? Simple answer. She is NOT sitting. If you look at the PokePlushProject, Eevee has almost always been made to be in a sitting or standing pose (but mostly sitting). Yes, there were some exceptions: 6 out of 53 plushes have her lying down. However, those plush are very rare and not easy to find. I can also expect to see a huge volume of people after those same plush, so you can bet your two front teeth that they will be expensive, too.

This plush, while not super rare, is still sought after. Probably for the same reason I wanted it. It's part of the I <3 Eevee series so we know she is going to be super soft, and she is laying down! Come on! Who can resist the little bugger laying down? I love this plush and I am happy to own a plush of Eevee in a different pose for once!

Picture
Tiny Eevee Pracoro Dice (White)

Syminka is an Eevee collector, so I was surprised to see her selling these. She may have already had them, and since I love Pracoro dice, I asked if she could sell these to me.

Can you say "cute?" Yes, yes they are!

Picture
Tiny Eevee Pracoro Die (Yellow)

A yellow version of the Eevee die you can see on the right in the image above.

Picture
Espeon Jakks Figure

This is the first Espeon item I got that was not a bootleg! I did get a bootie 2012 Pokémon Center plush at a convention, and yes, I was fully aware it was a bootleg when I got it. She is more of a travelling/bedtime companion than a collectable. No, she will not be displayed here, since I have a self-imposed rule of not showing bootlegs on my site.

I got this figure for a very good price! Probably $25 less than what I would have paid for online!

Picture
Espeon Tomy Figure

A birthday gift from the lovely Syminka, my Eevee mentor and sensei! When it comes to Eeveelution merchandise, I look to her for what I would like. Thank you so much, love!

What a pretty figure! Espeon seems to be looking at something.

#228 Houndour
#229 Houndoom and Mega Houndoom

Picture
Japanese names: デルビル (Delvil), ヘルガー (Hellgar)
I LOVE Houndour and Houndoom! When they first appeared in Gold and Silver, I knew I had to have one for my team! I always hated how they were only available after beating the Elite Four, which I always thought was really lame.

If I could, I would have collected them right from the beginning when I first joined Pkmncollectors in 2010. Their popularity kind of scared me off, but like Growlithe and Arcanine, I decided to just get what I could and take it slow. Mega Houndoom could also have had something to do with my decision, since, behind Mega Charizard X and Y, he is my third favorite Mega Evolution. Seriously, he just looks so damn cool!

If all goes well with collecting these guys, there could be a Generation II page in the future!

Picture
Houndoom and Mega Houndoom Pokémon Center Charms

Dark dog charms! I still need to get the previous charms of Houndoom and Houndour, but drat their infinite popularity making them more expensive! Oh well. They deserve their popularity, so keep all your angry emails for now.

Picture
Mega Houndoom Pokémon Center Can Badge

I am sad to say that Mega Houndoom does not have a lot to his name. No Tomy figures, no Kid figures... nothing! There is still hope, and I cling to that hope, but with The
Pokémon Company milking the likes of Charizard and Lucario, I don't see it in the immediate future. What a crying shame.

This is what got me into the spirit of Houndoom collecting. Since these badges are blind boxed, when I saw one for sale I had to snatch it up! I am glad I did! That artwork is amazing!

#359 Absol and Mega Absol

Picture
Japanese name: アブソル (Absol)
I love Absol! When I first encountered one in-game in Ruby, I was like "Wow! What a beautiful Pokémon!" Mega Absol is so elegant-looking! A very fitting design for what I imagined Absol's evolution to be!

As much as I love Absol, I am afraid I cannot collect her non-stop. Her items are too rare and too popular for me to collect. Most of the items I have were obtained through lots or given as gifts.

Picture
Absol Trading Figure Game Figure

Such a beautiful figure! Unfortunately, whoever owned it previously should have kept it away from their dog or cat as it looks like she has chew marks on her horn.

Oh well, I got this in a lot of TFG figures and the figure I really wanted intact was intact. I just wished every other figure was just as flawless, like this one.

Picture
Absol Tomy Gashapon Figure

I know this was a gashapon figure, but from what set I am not sure. She has a small magnet on the bottom.

This was a gift from clair2522!

Picture
Absol Soap Figure

Another gift from the wonderful clair2522! This beautiful figure was released with some soap! I don't know if they were in the soap or just included with it.

Picture
Mega Absol Tomy Mega Evolutions VS Figure

Do you know how happy I was that Mega Charizard X came paired with Mega Absol? For one thing, that means I don't have to sell it or give it away! This figure is beautiful. The details are very well-done and I love how she just flows all together.

#403 Shinx, #404 Luxio, and #405 Luxray

Picture
Japanese names: コリンク (Kolink), ルクシオ (Luxio), レントラー (Rentorar)
My fellow lions! I had to get a couple of items made of the electric lions! Luxray is my favorite of the bunch, so I want to get more items of her! If I were a Pokémon, would I be a Luxray or a Pyroar?

Another great Pokémon family that I will not be collecting hardcore. That's only because I am not looking to spend too much money on what they have (and they have a lot). There are still a couple of items that I would love to have! Many thanks to syminka for the items I currently own! Without her help, I would be spending a lot of my time searching or neglecting what is out there!

Picture
Lions Zukan

The lions Zukan is so well made! No flaws with this line whatsoever! I wish they put this much effort into their other Zukans released during that time. Hell, I wish they would put that much effort into the Zukans they release now.

Picture
Luxray Tomy Figure

The Luxray Tomy figure looks so regal! I would imagine Luxray being incredibly vain!

Picture
Luxray Kid

Here she is in Kid form! She's searching for prey with her x-ray vision!

Picture
Luxio Tomy Figure

Luxio never looks happy in any of the figures he has.

Picture
Shinx Kid

Shinx looks so chubby here! But he's a good chubby!

Picture
Shinx Tomy Figure

The Shinx Tomy figure is larger than the Luxio and Luxray figures.

Picture
Shinx Clipping Figure

No biting! Bad kitty! I love his pose!

Picture
Lions Pokémon Center National Dex Charms

The electric lions in their wonderful
Pokémon Center charm forms!

#418 Buizel and #419 Floatzel

Picture
Japanese name: ブイゼル (Buoysel)
Hooray for sea weasles! Otters are, of course, my second favorite animal, so I knew I had to have one when I got my copy of Pearl! It is also interesting to note that before I was collecting Pokémon, the plushes and toys that I bought were always of Buizel. True, they were Jakks figures, but it still counts as something to be proud of!

With all that in mind, he and Floatzel will be minor collections. I am not looking to get everything out there, but I would love to have all the plushes!

Picture
Pokémon Center Giant Buizel Pokémon Time Plush

This plush is massive! He is actually a lot wider than the giant Substitute plush, but not as tall. I got him off of Pokevault and Brian could only ship him via EMS due to his size. If Brian was not able to send him through any other shipment, I doubt he'll be able to be shipped any other way through any other seller.

As usual with these Pokémon Time plush, he is very well made and soft! Oh my goodness! He is so cuddly and squishy! If he wasn't so expensive, I would have purchased two of them so I can keep one to display and have the other for cuddling. Gah! Why are all the best plushes so rare and expensive?

Picture
Buizel Jakks Plush

The first Pokémon toy I have bought since the Hasbro days of Gold and Silver! He is kind of derpy and is not one of Jakks's better plush, but I still love him dearly!

Picture
Buizel Kid

Buizel tries to give off a serious, determined look. He comes across as something you would pick up and hug instead of feeling fear.

Picture
Floatzel Kid

Floatzel always had this adorableness to him yet he also had something else that actually made you take him seriously when coming across him in battle. Maybe it's that awesome movepool and speediness that makes people take him seriously?

Picture
Buizel Jakks Figure

They did a good job on this figure. Oh, how I miss Jakks making Pokémon toys!

Picture
Buizel Gashapon Strap

I am surprised at how good looking this figure is! He displays no derpy qualities and the paint job looks fantastic!

Picture
Buizel Clear Gashapon Strap

While it is the same pose as the item above, this strap is actually from a different set. This was sold to me by the wonderful clair2522.

#614 Beartic

Picture
Japanese name: ツンベアー (Tunbear)
Beartic is a big lug, though not as big a lug as Diggersby. I like this guy but I really didn't have any intention of buying anything of his. What I got was a fluke, but the two pieces of merchandise that I have of his are too charming to sell or trade off. As for how I got both of these figures, just keep on reading.

Picture
Beartic Tomy Figure

I got this Beartic figure because syminka was hosting a group buy and nobody wanted Beartic. I wanted to help make her group buy a success so I ended up claiming him. It all worked out in the end! I really ended up liking the figure!

Picture
Beartic Clipping Figure

Another group buy get, but this time I was hosting the group buy and I initially did not claim him. All the figures up for grabs were claimed with the exception of the Beartic and Klinklang figures. I don't care for the latter at all, but the former I decided to keep.

One of my biggest problems with Beartic merchandise and why I really don't want to continue buying them is that they keep recycling that same pose. You probably couldn't tell this figure from the Tomy figure if it weren't for the copyright information imprinted on their backs. They could have had him on all fours like they had him in the anime, but then again, if they keep recycling poses for something as popular as Eevee, then I really shouldn't expect anything new for something not as popular as Beartic.

It still bugs me that they didn't give him anything unique because this is a clipping figure! Figures that are supposed to look like they came right out of the movie with a unique pose. This is just lazy and inexcusable.

#659 Bunnelby and #660 Diggersby

Picture
Japanese names: ホルビー (Horubee), ホルード (Horudo)
Rabbits! I adore rabbits! They are my favorite herbivorous animals, equal to reindeer! There is just something about rabbits I really love. I don't know if it is because I watched too many Bugs Bunny cartoons and Roger Rabbit as a kid, but then again, a lot of my favorite cartoon characters were rabbits.

For the longest time I really wanted a rabbit Pokémon. Come Generation IV, we got our true rabbits in the forms of Buneary and Lopunny. While I do like Buneary, I am not too fond of Lopunny. That human-like body with the feminine curves really creep me out. It looks more like a person in a rabbit fursuit and that's not what a rabbit Pokémon should look like, in my opinion. Thus, I was left without a rabbit Pokémon to really collect. I had my cats, dogs, and otters, but no rabbits. That's until Bunnelby showed up! He is the rabbit Pokémon that I've always wanted made! His cartoony looks are a plus and he reminds me of those adorable and goofy rabbits that I loved watching in cartoons. His evolution, Diggersby, is a dumb oaf of a rabbit and is as slow as a rock yet strong as an ox. I find that charming and that is what a rabbit should be! Goofy and silly!

Picture
Bunnelby Tomy Plush

He's almost perfect. I just wish he was made with a better material. Tomy plushes almost always uses this rough material for their plushes, limiting the softer varieties to their more limited plushes.

He's still cute, though. Look at his bunny face!

Picture
Bunnelby Kid

Ahh, my first piece of rabbit merch. Kids are always a joy to own, and this little guy is no exception! Are we looking at an attack figure of this guy in the future, TPCI??

Picture
Bunnelby Chupa Figure

He's really small, and I had to prop him up to take his picture. Chupa figures are always a pain to take a picture of, but the details and rarity of these figures make them a must have.

Picture
Bunnelby Pokémon Good Night Friends Figure

Goodness, I want to thank my awesome friend clair2522 for giving me this little guy to add to my rabbit hutch! This has to be one of my favorite figures in my collection! Sleeping figures and plushes are just too cute!

Picture
Bunnelby Gashapon Strap Figure

Gashapon straps are a given with
Pokémon. Still, the quality is amazing! This little guy comes with no blemishes!

Picture
Bunnelby White Eraser

Syminka managed to get all the Generation VI Pokémon I collect in eraser form! I asked if she could sell them to me and she said yes! Bunnelby being amonst them, of course!

These erasers are very well-made. The details are top-notch!

Picture
Bunnelby and Diggersby Pokémon Center Charms

Generation VI charms! I guess it is going to be a tradition to release these after a new generation is released, but not that I'm complaining! It's highly welcomed since I love these charms! As you can see, the backing is different as it is shades darker than the backings of the Generation V charms and includes the silhouettes of the X and Y starters.

With the exception of the Gogoat-line, I own all the charms of the
Pokémon I collect from the X and Y games. Here are those wascally wabbits! I'm sorry, I had to say it.

Substitute

Picture
Japanese name: みがわり (Scapegoat)

The Substitute plush. Not a real Pokémon, but a Pokémon move that any Pokémon can learn as of TM90, though this became a trend starting in Generation IV. In Generation I it was TM50, and it wasn't a TM at all in Generations II and III, being a move that can only be learned by Mr. Mime in Gen II and Kecleon in Gen III.

Even the plush itself didn't take this familiar form until Generation III. In Generations I and II, it had a greater resemblance to Rhydon before becoming the frog-dinosaurish thing we know and love today.

Despite all that, the Pokémon Centers have always associated the Substitute plush with Whimsicott during its initial release as part of a promotion that associated certain Pokémon with an item (Vulpix had a Fire Stone, Snorlax had Leftovers, Miltank had Moo Moo Milk). Despite the fact that almost any Pokémon can learn the move, Whimsicott had the subbie plush because of its Prankster ability, which allowed it to use a non-damaging moves first, regardless of how fast it was (and it was already fast with a base speed of 116). To this day, it is still associated with Whimsicott, though there have been a few times where the plush would be released without the Whimsicott name attached to it.

I did buy myself a plush during the Great Substitute Plush Craze of 2013. I sold it because I really didn't feel like it was worth it to own one and managed to buy something else I really wanted with the money. During that time, people went nuts for this plush! They were sold out at Pokémon Centers across Japan and they even released limited large size plushes that fetched high prices everywhere. It didn't faze me, though. While I thought they were cute, I didn't feel like I needed to own one. It was just a silly fad that I knew would eventually let up.

Then came Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. In these games, you can decorate your Super Secret Base with these plushes. Then that's when I felt the need to have one for myself, just like my SSB in Omega Ruby. More on these scapegoats (or scapedragons?) below.

Picture
Pokémon Center Giant Whimsicott Substitute Plush

The Pokémon Center sold these plush in very limited quantities, only allowing one per customer. They sold out quick within hours. While difficult to find in Japan, they can be purchased through the US Pokémon Center website.

This is the largest item that I have in my collection to come from Japan. Standing at two feet tall and two feet wide and nearing 10 pounds, this monster was a pain to take a picture of. The backdrop had to be expanded to accommodate for his large size. It takes up so much room that I wouldn't recommend buying one unless you actually have the room for it.

If you do have the room, it is worth the buy! I know a lot of people complain about the fact that he has a large price tag, but you know what? With how limited these plush were and how well-made it is, I recommend any Pokémon collector out there to get this plush if possible. It is a gorgeous plush that'll make your room feel more like a Secret Base than anything!

Soft yet firm, you just cannot help but pat and poke that big fat belly!

Picture
Pokémon Center Large Whimsicott Substitute Plush

Sold on Japan's Amazon site, these plush were limited to only 5 per customer. Yes, they sold out very quickly, too.

It is about the size of a Pokémon Center plush. It's a good size that allows for optimum cuddling!

Picture
Pokémon Center Whimsicott Substitute Plush

The first Substitute plush to be released, thus opening a can of worms in terms of something for people to be obsessing over. Not that that's a bad thing, mind you.

I display it like I would if I had a real-life secret base. I regret nothing and I hope to one day own the Whimsicott-Substitute keychain figure.

Picture
Pokémon Center Whimsicott Substitute Plush Keychain

In keychain form! Its just as soft and cuddly as the regular sized plush.

Picture
Pokémon Center Substitute Plush Charm

This was part of a Substitute plush item lot that I found on eBay! The price was too good so I snatched it as soon as I could!

I have always loved charms! This one is no exception. Oh, and it is one of the few subbie items that doesn't include Whimsicott as part of the package.

Picture
Pokémon Center Substitute Plush iPhone 6 Jacket and Scratch Protector

Another set of Whimsicott-less items.

I normally do not purchase iPhone products. I do not have any problems against Apple or iPhone users. It's just that these products do not appeal to me and I tend to skip them in favor of items that interest me more, like plushes or charms. I made an exception for this. Look at it! I actually want to poke that jacket's "belly."

The scratch protector was included in the lot so I might as well show it off. There was no way I was going to purchase that thing individually but hey, can't say no to a free item! It was super sweet of the seller to include it!

Misc. Collections

These are items that wouldn't fit in any other category. They really lighten up the room!

Picture
Nintendo Power Official Pokémon Player's Guide

I have a lot of history with this guide! This was my very first Pokémon guide book and the one item that got me more interested in Pokémon when I visited a Toys R Us in 1998. I wanted to know more about that orange dragon that I saw in a Pokémon commercial and found out about Charizard for the first time.

Unfortunately, this is not my original guide book as this was purchased from eBay in 2018. The original guide I had was ruined by my idiot sixth grade science teacher who confiscated it during class. I got it back at the end of the school year and there was not only water damage but some of the stickers were missing. I bet she gave it to her little brat to play with. Yeah, as you can tell, I did not like that woman.

So of course, over time, the original was lost but I am so happy to have this bit of history back in my life. It is kept safe away from awful science teachers and water.

Picture
Pokémon Card Game Art Collection Book

A must-have book if you are a fan of the Pokémon Trading Card Game artwork. You will spend hours looking at the gorgeous artwork even if you don't own any of the cards or even like a particular Pokémon. The book is in Japanese so if you cannot not read the language, you won't get to find any information in regards to the artwork. Still, I love the art contributed to the TCG over the years and to this day, I am still amazed.

Picture
Let's Find Pokémon Picture Books

Anybody who loves Pokémon should get these books! They remind me a lot of the Where's Waldo books (a series I loved as a kid), and I highly recommend them! You can waste hours away looking for your favorite Pokémon!

Picture
The Official Pokémon Handbook

Who didn't have this book when they were into the Generation I games? This book is not the original copy that I owned when it was first released as I don't remember what happened to my original. Who knows? I may have sold it or gave it away. Regardless, I bought a new copy on eBay for a good price, and it now sits with my collection of Pokémon books!

For an American book, the information is actually quite helpful and full of zany explanations! It also featured artwork that is not commonly seen anywhere else. I liked that! Nowadays, official
Pokémon books just tell you information you can easily read online without any whimsical playfulness. They read like a machine spouting the same information and it feels lifeless and dull. They also tend to feature the same old Sugimori artwork. They are just not as fun to read as what was given to us during the Red, Blue, and Yellow days. I know I sound like an insufferable Genwunner, but that's the way I feel about the books we get.

If you do not have this book, grab yourself a copy! It's a great visit down memory lane!

Picture
Pokémon Emerald Large Picture Book

Unlike in the West, Japan still gets books that feature different artwork of
Pokémon and gives information that doesn't read like a blunt, cold-hearted machine.

This is an older book that was released around the time of
Pokémon Emerald. It is what it is: a Pokémon encyclopedia (図鑑 is spelled as Zukan in Romaji, and it is Japanese for "picture book" or "encyclopedia").

It is a great book to have even if you cannot read Japanese! The pictures that are shown in this book are the biggest plus!
