How to Train Your Dragon

Picture
I LOVE these movies! I know. Big shocker, right? Who doesn't love these movies? Well, you see, these movies deserve all the praise they get. They had charming characters, gorgeous animation, wonderful character designs from the super-talented Chris Sanders (who sadly had no input in regards to the second movie), and the most important aspect of all, they had DRAGONS!

The toy line for this franchise didn't take shape until the show Riders of Berk aired on television. I had not seen a single episode on television because I just stopped caring about anything new that comes on, but I made an exception for this show when I found out about it. Thank goodness for Amazon Prime that allowed me to catch up on the previous episodes!

I am hoping for something limited in this series. A detailed statue of Toothless would have me in ICU from shock and happiness! I hope I just gave you major toy companies who happen to unexpectedly glance at this page some ideas. *wink wink nudge nudge*

Toothless Build A Bear Plush with Saddle

I got incredibly LUCKY with this one! A friend texted me that Build A Bear was having a promotion for How to Train Your Dragon 2 in the form of Toothless plushes the very day they were released! Because I wanted one so bad and was impatient, I immediately went as soon as I got that fateful text message. They had a boxful of plushes and there wasn't a long line of people so I thought they weren't going to sell out. I was wrong. They sold out before the night was over!

The thing is, if I had waited just the next day to get this plush, I would have been out of luck! I am so glad I didn't, otherwise I would have had to pay double on eBay. That's really messed up that people buy these plushes to do that. It's all fair game, yes, but it's still crummy. I can't imagine the amount of kids who were disappointed.

Fortunately, he has been rereleased a few times and I hope those who didn't get a plush the first time around managed to get one this time!

He is so soft and the material is well made! He has a scaley texture which is a really nice touch! I bought a saddle for him at an extra cost but it just makes him look so much cuter! He was worth the drive and the money!

Picture
Stormfly Build A Bear Plush

As much as I would have adored a Stormfly plush, I was not holding my breath for Build A Bear to make them. Toothless was the character that everyone wanted and I thought that alone was nice.

Then they actually did it. They released her in all her blue and yellow glory. This plush is FANTASTIC! I can't believe they actually made her, and I am so glad they did!

Like the Toothless variant, she is very well made! Build A Bear did a fantastic job with these plush.

Picture
Barf and Belch Build A Bear Plush

This was totally unexpected. Barf and Belch were the last dragons I thought Build A Bear would make, but they actually made him in all his two-headed glory!

Picture
Hookfang Build A Bear Plush

The latest dragon to be released by Build A Bear! That only leaves Meatlug as the last main dragon without a plush made.

Much like his fellow dragons, he is very well-made and tailored to anyone who loves this guy or dragons in general.

Picture
Spin Master Toothless Plush

These adorable mini plushes are so well-made and soft. They all sold out very fast. I don't know if they'll restock or not, but wow! These plush are FANTASTIC.

Picture
Spin Master Stormfly Plush

Stormfly in chibi form. Isn't she adorable?

Picture
Spin Master Hookfang Plush

Hookfang looking dangerous and cute at the same time!

Picture
Spin Master Meatlug Plush

My favorite of the bunch! Look at that goofy-looking face! She cracks me up!

Picture
Toothless UFO Plush

My friend, clair2522, won this little guy for me for my birthday! He is just too adorable! She didn't have to go through that trouble yet she did just to win this little guy for me! I don't deserve friends like the ones I have!

Picture
Toothless Movie Cup Figure

They were sold out of Toothless and Stormfly cups when I went to see HTTYD 2. I was a sad kitty, but clair2522 went to the movies a week later and found the cups had been restocked! She got me this and Stormfly below! This was also the last Toothless cup they had before they were gone forever! I can't thank her enough!

Picture
Stormfly Movie Cup Figure

Stormfly is my favorite of the three cups! She just looks so regal and elegant!

My 5-year-old cousin had this figure before I got one of my own. I was about to pay him $5 for it. He plays with it like there is no tomorrow and it was scruffed badly; that's how desperate I was. Clair2522 saved me the trouble in the knick of time!

More on Stormfly below with her miniature figure!

Picture
Hookfang Movie Cup Figure

They had plenty of Hookfang cups when I went to see HTTYD 2. That's surprising as I thought he would have been more popular than that. He has an amazing design!

Alas, I got the cup that was in the best condition. I still love him!

As with Stormfly, more on Hookfang below!

Picture
Toothless Metallic Funko Pop Figure

This was my very first Funko Pop figure. Yeah, blasphemy right? Every collector has to have at least one Funko figure. Either way, I am proud to say this is my first Funko figure! Toothless is amazing!

Picture
Toothless Racing Stripes Funko Pop Figure

A Walmart-exclusive figure. While Walmart can go choke on a chicken bone, this figure is actually really cool! I just wish it had been exclusive to any other place that didn't happen to be Walmart.

Picture
Holiday Toothless Funko Figure

In the US, these figures were exclusive to malls that hosted the Adventure to Santa shows, a show featuring Shrek and friends on a holiday adventure that could only be attended by reservation only. Only five locations hosted it, and at all those locations, these figures sold out like hot cakes! Not only that, once these figures were gone, they were gone!

Of course, that was only in the US...

These figures were also sold in other parts of the world and they weren't as limited as they were in the US. While not the cheapest Funko figure, they aren't as rare as they appear to be, so getting one for decent price is very possible.

Rare or not, he is adorable!

Picture
Stormfly Funko Pop Figure

I love her expression, but I wish they got the colors around her eyes correct. They are supposed to be a shade of red, not orange. I want to send this figure to a custom painter to correct that. It bothers me that much.

Other than that, this is a wonderful figure! If only they got that one detail right.

Picture
Hookfang Funko Pop Figure

This one is perfect! No complaints from me!

Picture
Barf and Belch Funko Pop Figure

Another perfect figure! Man, these guys have personality! I love them!

Picture
Growling Toothless Funko Mini Figure

Even after being in the market for a few years, these figures are still very popular on eBay! I am surprised the Toothless figures are the most difficult to get. I know the main characters in these blind bag packages can have a few figures that have a lower rate of obtaining, but every single one of them? Toothless has four figures, and all of them fetch prices that are worth more than the boxes themselves at retail price.

Since I already have five figures from this set, my chances have officially been lowered in getting a new figure from these boxes, so no, they're not worth buying if I want a new figure.

I guess I cannot fault people for selling Toothless for a high amount. All four figures look awesome! I especially love this one! I love the figures that look menacing yet adorable at the same time!

Picture
Stormfly Random Funko Mini Figure

A very lucky find on eBay! I won her for a good price. Now that's the way her eyes should be colored! I wonder why they didn't color them that way for her larger Pop figure?

Picture
Barf and Belch Random Funko Mini Figure

This was pulled out of a box I purchased. I figured that I might as well buy three boxes and get something I don't have, unless I get unlucky and pull something from the second or third box I already got in the first box. That didn't happen, thank goodness.

I call this a lucky pull as I love this figure! Those faces are so well done! Beautiful!

Picture
Hiccup with Regular Sword Random Funko Mini Figure

I was kind of hoping to get the figure with the flaming sword but this one is a great pull as well!

He looks so confident! A huge improvement to what he used to be in the previous movie!

Picture
Astrid Random Funko Mini Figure

Another lucky pull! This figure is gorgeous! Look at those details! They got all of them right. This is one of my favorite figures and I hope Funko continues the good work.

Picture
Mega Toothless Alpha Edition

This figure is BADASS! This bad boy measures in at almost 2 feet from head to tail! He's a beast that every HTTYD collector should own! Everything about him is perfect and one can only hope that they release the other dragons like this guy. I would love a Stormfly figure of this size.

Again, at 24", he can be difficult to display. My recommendation is to put him at the very top of the shelf. Let him be large and in charge to look over his kingdom!

Picture
Toothless Defenders of Berk Action Figure

This figure is huge! He measures around 11 inches from head to tail. He also comes with a blue fire missle that launches from his mouth. He doesn't have a huge range of motions and his wings have limited articulation. I wish his wings and his tail could be poseable, only because the length and width of this figure takes up a lot of space which makes him difficult to display. Regardless, if you have the room, this is a great figure for anyone who loves this magnificant beast!

Picture
Toothless Tiny Figure

Just a must-have find from Target. He really isn't anything too special, but hey, he's cute. That's what matters. He was also inexpensive, so that helped, too.

Picture
Toothless Defenders of Berk Miniature Spin Master Figure First Set

Adorable miniatures made of the dragons were released in 2013! Dreamworks reading my mind is putting it very lightly! If I said I loved this figure, I would be stating the sickeningly obvious. You know what else? I don't care! I love this figure and all of the dragons that were released in this set.

Here is Toothless in his adorable "love me" pose. If you notice, his tail is intact.

I should also mention that this is the only miniature figure I bought locally (and got ripped off) at my local Toys R Us. My true blue friend, syminka, picked up the rest of them for me for a fraction of what I paid for locally.

Picture
Toothless Defenders of Berk Miniature Figure Second Set

This figure has him posing fiercely (and looking very cute doing so). Toothless already has his artificial tail fin, as you can see.

Picture
Toothless Defenders of Berk Miniature Figure Third Set

I have wanted this figure ever since syminka showed me her own! Typical of my local stores, none of them had it. I finally found one two months after their initial release. He was worth the wait!

His begging pose is just too adorable! I feel like that guy who melted in Raiders of the Lost Ark. That's how much it melts me!

By the way, if your squeemish and you don't know what I am talking about, don't google that image. I'm serious.

Picture
Toothless Dreamworks Dragons Miniature Figure

A successor to the Defenders of Berk series by name only. I guess when you have two movies and a television shows of this franchise, you have to limit it under one name. Good choice, Dreamworks.

Here he is crouching and growling. Little rascal.

Picture
Toothless Smiling Dreamworks Dragons Miniature Figure

Normally I praise these miniature figures, but this one looks kind of creepy. I know Toothless's "toothless" grin is a trademark, but this figure reminds me of an image I once saw online with a woman making the same smile and looking like she was about to have a nervous breakdown at the same time. This figure just reminds me of that.

Also, compared to the previous miniatures, this one doesn't have that great of a paint job. I guess they cannot all be winners.

Picture
Stormfly Defenders of Berk Miniature Figure

Toothless is my favorite dragon, but my second favorite has to be Stormfly! She is a Deadly Nadder and I just love the design of this dragon. I think it's the color scheme. Simply gorgeous! She is also the dragon partner of my favorite human in the series, so that is definitely a plus!

The details on this figure are really nice.

Picture
Hookfang Defenders of Berk Miniature Figure

He's a Monstrous Nightmare, but this figure makes him look anything but.

Picture
Barf and Belch Defenders of Berk Miniature Figure

If you have seen the film and the show, you will know why he is named that. Hey, don't look at me! I didn't name these dragons. You gotta admit, the name is a great fit for a Hideous Zippleback.

The paint job is fantastic! It is probably the best done out of all these figures. They also have the cutest faces!

Picture
Meatlug Defenders of Berk Miniature Figure

I was very surprised to find out that the main Gronckle in the film and show is female. Stormfly has that feminine look and name to her, but not Meatlug. Even her name sounds very masculine-ish. That is in no way a bad thing! In fact, I welcome it! Not all girls are small, petite, and delicate, so that kind of variety is nice. Besides, dragons are not humans anyways, and unless there is some sexual dimorphism that goes on in specific dragon species like what goes on in birds, you're going to get females that look like this. It is really refreshing to see female beast characters look like actual beasts. Then again, this franchise has yet to fail me with its own female human characters, so I am a happy customer!

Now as for the figure, I love it! She's heavily detailed and I love the look on her face.

Picture
Thornado Defenders of Berk Miniature Figure

This is probably my least favorite figure of the bunch, only because he looks nothing like a Thunderdrum. Unlike the previous figures, he looks really different from his original appearance and if his name weren't on the box, I wouldn't know what character he was, much less his species.

Regardless, he is still a must have for dragon-collectors. I am not saying this is a bad figure because that expression on his looks really nice, it's just how much different he looks from his television counterpart.

Picture
Terrible Terror Defenders of Berk Miniature Figure

He's a cutie. No name for this guy. That's his species name.

Picture
Skullcrusher Defenders of Berk Miniature Figure

He's a terrifying Rumblehorn but in this miniaturized version, he looks anything but terrifying. He actually looks like a cute little beetle.

The actual dragon indeed looks like something that can kill you with his looks alone. He's gorgeous but deadly.

Picture
Cloudjumper Defenders of Berk Miniature Figure

The Stormcutter species is a beautiful one! An instant fave when I first laid my eyes on him. This miniature keeps a lot of that beauty that mesmorized me, despite his adorableness.

Picture
Stormfly Water Squirter

She is new and never has been played with, yet she has scruffs all around her. I guess they play tested her? Either way, she still has that charm that makes me love her oh-so much!

Picture
How to Train Your Dragon 2 Art Book

This was given to me as a birthday present from syminka. I remember expressing jealousy of the art book she owned and, what do you know, she got me a book of my own for my birthday! Thank you so much, love! You are the best!

The book itself is gorgeous. The artwork featured really inspires me to do my best even with my own artwork. It's an inspirational book that I recommend every HTTYD fan to own.
